Random Thought

The smallest step in a positive direction is considerably better than sliding helplessly backwards. And you can take that step forward right now.

My First Quail Hunting Trip!

Matt, Forrest, Richard, Garland and I went to a game ranch where you can buy quail and pheasant, they set them out in a field, and then you go hunt them. I know, it isn’t totally like doing the real thing, but this winter was so harsh they just didn’t have much chance to hunt the wild birds. And, even in the areas where they used to find lots of birds, the numbers are steadily declining. This was my first opportunity to be along in a quail hunt, and it was great fun. I took a lot of photos, some even turned out pretty good. The boys shot 15 of the 20 quail set out for them and also shot a pheasant the morning hunt people didn’t find!

Spring is on its way!

The "Naked Ladies" are coming up through the dried leaves. Yeh! Spring is almost here!

Summer Sausage Weekend!

It’s Summer Sausage weekend!! The two smokers are full of 175 pounds of the best Summer Sausage in the world that the boys mixed and stuffed this morning.

While the meat is smoking, the boys are working on their shooting skills! Above Richard backs Ernie up on the skeet shooting “range.”

Garland backs up Neil.

George and Richard refill Neil’s great electric skeet flinger.

More Basketball Action

We attended the boy’s Missouri high school Sectional playoff game tonight to watch Richard’s niece’s son Gabe (#40 jumping) play for Nixa High School. Unfortunately, they lost 67-60. They never did lead in the game, and they couldn’t buy a basket even though they threw lots of balls toward it.

Bolivar won their Sectional playoff game tonight and will play Saturday for the next level heading towards the state championship!

Evening Bird Feeding Fenzy

Just before dark the birds hit the feeders really

hard as it snowed equally hard!

Just Checking In

A minister passing through his church
in the middle of the day,
decided to pause by the altar
and see who had come to pray.

Just then the back door opened,
a man came down the aisle.
The minister frowned as he saw
the man hadn’t shaved in quite a while.

His shirt was kinda shabby
and his coat was worn and frayed.
The man knelt, he bowed his head,
then rose and walked away…

Snowy Birth

I walked down our lane (above) to get the mail and photograph this little neighbor calf who was just born. He hadn’t even stood up yet as of this photo. I imagine his words at this point as he lay in the snow with heavy snow coming down were, “put me BACK!!!”

Brief Heavy Snow

This morning it started raining, then shifted to snow and then really kicked the snow into high gear. So, of course, I had to go out and photographic it!

Here you can see some of the huge snowflakes!

Since the snow was falling straight down, it left this ring of no snow under the kid’s tire swing!

I’m really glad I washed clothes yesterday! They wouldn’t have dried nearly as well today!

Freezing Fog Morning

This morning the freezing fog covered everything in hoar frost!

So, of course, I had to go take photos!

And, since it had been stormy and cloudy for so many days and forecast to be bad tomorrow, I also had to wash and dry clothes. I took a chance the fog would lift and dry the clothes. It was funny pinning them onto the line which was heavily covered with the hoar frost!

As I hoped, 3 hours later the sun did come out and dry the clothes!! Notice the ice is almost melted on the clothes line in the photo on the left!

Regarding hanging clothes on the line to dry, I would do it most of the time even if I had a dryer, which I don’t. Well, Richard would argue that and say we DO have a dryer. Which, technically, we do! However, the dryer runs on propane, is not hooked up to the propane tank, and isn’t easily accessible on the back porch even if it was hooked up. So, I stand by my statement, I do NOT have a dryer! Sometimes it would be nice to have one, if I don’t plan ahead on getting the wash done and hung on the back porch or outside! So, that means I just need to plan ahead! And, of course, this means I’m doing my bit for global warming or global climate change or whatever they are calling that religion these days!!

Walk in the snow

Richard and I took a great walk this afternoon enjoying the snow in the sunshine. Click here for photos.
