First Fishing of 2007!

Jenny and I went fishing today for the first time this year and had a great time. The weather was wonderful, and we saw all sorts of wildlife. We just caught one fish each, but it was still great fun. Jenny was in charge of photography this trip and took all the photos!

Here I am again, still not catching any fish!

This neat design was on the back of a plaque dedicating two benches to the memory of an avid fisherman.

Turkey Hunting Success!

Here’s Garland and Richard with Richard’s turkey brought down about 12:45 pm! 21 pounds, 10 3/4 inch beard, 1 inch spurs!

During the spring turkey season, they can only hunt until 1 pm. The afternoon activities included painting the roof of the cabin. Matt’s hard at work here!

Morning Fog

This morning I just had to get out early
and photograph the morning fog.
These two birds were enjoying it also.

I have noticed the reflection of the barn
in the pond before and thought
I’d see how it looked in the fog.

Girls’ Night Out

Susan (middle), Rondle (right) and I had a “girls night out” tonight. Movie (“Wild Hogs”), dinner and visiting to catch up. We met at home schooling meetings long, long ago and continue to get together as we can (usually while Richard’s enjoying a hunting weekend away).

Evening Rainbow

It’s been raining off and on through the early evening, and Richard said that, since the sun was shinning, there should be a rainbow to the east. Sure enough, there was a lovely full rainbow! Notice the poor injured trees framing the rainbow.

Work the Calves Again

Richard worked the calves again today. They are doing so much better!

The people who own the calves raise horses.
This foal was born last week.

First Brush Pile from the Ice Storm Burned

Then we came home and decided to burn
one of the big limb piles around the house.

We could only burn one as the
others were on the wrong side
of the houses for the prevailing winds.
We started the fire at 4:36.

Notice the cool effect of the heat
waves against part of the tractor.

Then, at 7:26 pm the brush
pile was burned down to this . . .

. . . with just small limbs to push onto the
main part of the fire. One pile down,
3 more to go, and that’s JUST in the front yard!

More Field Burning!

This morning I went to work with Richard
as he had 3 fields to burn as part of his work.

Here’s the best way to “work” a fire, resting
against the rake. That means you planned
it out well, had good fire-breaks, had plenty
of help, and the winds worked for you.
