I decided I wanted to try fly fishing, and Richard and I have been pricing new fly rods/reels. Bass Pro is really proud of theirs, and most of them are the really long kinds that I didn’t want anyway. So, we thought about ebay! I found and bought this really cool 6.5 ft, 2 piece, square, vintage (meaning old!), fishing rod and Pflueger reel and got it bought and shipped for just over $20! Something about a square fishing rod really struck me as cool. I haven’t fished with it, yet, but I’ll let you know how it does when I do!

Justin came down for a short visit today. Calie is out of the Navy and has moved back to Springfield for good! Justin will be moving down toward the end of July after he finishes his work in Chicago. I babysat the kids today and then got this shot after Jessica got home from work. I am excited about having all my kids back in Missouri again!

. . . when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle.
It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd.”
I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.
As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.
My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, “Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives.”

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark.
- Don’t miss the boat.
- Remember that we are all in the same boat.
- Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the Ark.
- Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
- Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
- Build your future on high ground.
- For safety sake, travel in pairs.
- Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
- When you’re stressed, float a while.
- Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
- No matter the storm, when you are with God, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Richard, Garland and I took a wonderful canoe trip on the Current River in south central Missouri from Sunday to Tuesday. Richard and Garland have floated this river many times, but I’ve never been there. It was neat to see the spots they have often talked about. We camped on the river the two nights and had good luck with the rain. It did rain some, but not in any way to really mess up our trip!

Ann asked Richard to give a little talk about Stockmanship after lunch both days.
He made some good contacts for future schools and places to work cattle.
