Random Thought

When you go ahead and do what must be done, you don't have to waste a lot of time worrying about it and wondering how you will ever find the time.

Missed Round One

In case you’ve been watching the Weather Channel and wondered, we narrowly missed round one of the tornadoes today. We heard the tornado siren go off in Morrisville, about 5 miles southeast of us here on the farm. We made our plan and then stood on the porch watching the direction the storm was coming from while listening to the radio updating us on the path of the storm. Tornadoes touched down in two areas SW of us, but then the main path headed more south of us.

There are more storms lined up to the SW, so it might be a long day! It is Spring in the Ozarks though, and that means tornadoes!

Family Get Together on the Farm

I found this neat web page here where you can write your own newspaper article!

We brought Bryce home after church, and he helped Grandpa start the charcoal for the grilling.

Jessica cut Garland’s hair, and Bryce is getting old enough to really enjoy playing at the farm!

Photos for our Stockmanship Brochure

Garland took photos of Richard and I to try and get one where I wasn’t looking dorkey!

Here’s the photo of us we chose for the brochure.

Then Richard and I did some driving while Garland photographed us to get some of us in action for our brochure.

Garland’s New Letterman Jacket

Garland got his new letterman jacket and showed it off this weekend.

Our Favorite Hotel

The Saskatoon Inn near the airport is our favorite hotel in Saskatoon. Here we are in the atrium area near their fabulous restaurant. We had fun Thursday night at dinner when we ordered fish and chips. The waitress asked if we wanted gravy with that? Well, I just had to ask, never having heard of gravy on fish and chips. She said they can serve gravy on the chips (french fries). So, then I got to wondering, is the gravy I’m thinking of the same as she’s talking about? So, I went ahead and asked what she meant by gravy. And, yes, it was the type of gravy I was thinking of, thickened chicken broth (brown gravy). Since I like to fully experience the location I’m at, I figured I’d try gravy with my fries. You should try it too!! Richard and I both really liked it. It’s hard to describe, but the fries are really enhanced by a dip in the gravy.

Deer Abound in Sasketchewan

On our drive to and from Yorkton we saw more deer than Richard or I have probably ever seen in our lives. The red box above is enlarged below.

Here’s the enlargement of the box above with deer marked in smaller red boxes. There were lots of deer out in this field with lots of great feed for them.

You can see them better in this photo.

Saskatoon Sunset

This was a neat, big barn on the drive from North Battleford back to Saskatoon.

Our hotel room faced the setting sun . . .

. . . so, of course, I had to photograph it!

I heard the airplane coming and tried to carefully time the shot getting the plane in the setting sun.

And day is done.

Lunch with Amy

Amy took us to lunch at the Wanuskewin Heritage Park in Saskatoon, Sasketchewan.

Our Flight Story!

Our flight out from Kansas City was delayed, meaning we missed our connection in Minneapolis for Saskatoon. Here’s the sunrise over the wing from Kansas City to Minneapolis.

We had almost 12 hours to spend in the Minneapolis airport, so we decided to take the train to the nearby Mall of America. Here’s the amusement park area behind us.

We had three things on our shopping list and managed to find two of them. We found a nice backpack for me to carry my laptop on the planes and little gifts for the grandkids, but weren’t able to find Birkinstock shoes for me.
As a result of NWA delaying our flights, we got exit row seats from KC to Minneapolis, and we got first class seats from Minneapolis to Saskatoon! I’ve never flown first class before! What a treat!!! Here’s Richard enjoying the ride!

Indian Food Restaurant Reviews

Richard and I try and sample the Indian food anywhere we get a chance. The Gem of India in Springfield is our favorite, and we try and eat there at least once a month.

Today we ate at Swagat Indian Restaurant in northwest Kansas City which just happens to be owned by the brother of the Gem of India owner! We didn’t know that until after we ate our really good meal!

On our way to West Virginia this year I took advantage of my new cellular card internet access and found the Tandoor Fine Indian Cuisine restaurant along the way in Lexington. We missed their lunch buffet, but really enjoyed dinner there.

One of our favorites in our travels was in Manassass, VA when we went to speak in West Virginia last year and visited DC during the weekend between talks. I can’t find a web page for them, but believe it was Spice’s Indian Food. We happened to go on an evening when they had a belly dancer, making it an even more special night.

We had a good lunch at India’s Clay Oven in Lone Tree (just south of Denver) last December with Ann Barnhardt of Bud Williams Marketing. We’d recommend it if you are in that area.

Last year in Regina, Saskatchwean we ate lunch at the India House. It had a pretty small buffet, but was pretty good.

The worst Indian food we’ve had was in Boulder, CO in fall 2005 when we were there for the MANA Conference. I can’t remember the name, but it was the winner of the “best Indian food in Boulder” award. If it was the best, they must not have very many in Boulder!
