Random Thought

Take a moment to truly realize all the good things you have going for you this very day. Then select one of your very best possibilities, and make it real.

Walk in the snow

Richard and I took a great walk this afternoon enjoying the snow in the sunshine. Click here for photos.

Senior Joke

“WHERE is my SUNDAY paper?!” The irate customer calling the newspaper office, loudly demanded to know where her Sunday edition was.

“Madam”, said the newspaper employee, “today is Saturday. The Sunday paper is not delivered until tomorrow, on SUNDAY”.

There was quite a long pause on the other end of the phone, followed by a ray of recognition as she was heard to mutter, “Well, shit, so that’s why no one was at church.”

The Revised Forecast!

Here’s the revised (yet again) forecast for Thursday and Friday. Our local TV forecast has us in the middle of the 6-12 inch snow rate!

And here’s the timeline of when it’s all supposed to happen.

Weather Forecast Update

Well, they’ve moved the “bad” line north to just border on us (red x above Springfield). Though, it does look like they are just calling for snow for us, and not ice. At least, that’s what I hope actually happens! I don’t much like that ice stuff!

Another Winter Storm Heading our Way

I’m posting this graphic today of what they forecast for later this week so we can compare and see how they do! We live near the red “X” just north of Springfield. I’m sure hoping that nasty ice stays south of us, but we will be prepared in case it doesn’t!

“Retro” Photos!

Facebook is going through a “retro” phase where folks are posting profile photos of themselves when they were younger. I didn’t want to sort through all my boxes in the barn and then scan some, but I remembered Mom had sent me scans from the family photo album! So, here are some older photos of me! Jessica had wanted some older photos of her, so I dug out these old Christmas card photos for her and thought I’d re-post them here again too! It’s fun to see the old photos of the kids, but still tugs at my heart to see the photos of John from happier times.

Above: I’m about a year old with Mom and Dad
Opposite: Me feeding a bottle lamb, about 2 years old (me, not the lamb)

Above I’m about 3 years old playing with Curly, our stock dog. Mom said it was great fun watching me, because I’d lift Curly up into the wagon, get around to pull him, and he’d jump out. Then I’d start all over again!

This is one of my favorite pictures of me. I’m holding the lead with the boss’s kids on the horse. I was a pretty good horsewoman by this age.

Winter Poetry

The wind and blowing snow was so harsh today,

it inspired me to write another haiku to go with this photo.

New Year’s Resolutions

[Stolen from our buddy Kit Pharo of Pharo Cattle Company.]

Are you sick of making the same resolutions year after year that you never keep? Why not resolve to do something you can actually accomplish? Here are some resolutions that you can use as a starting point:

  • Gain weight. Put on at least 20 pounds.
  • Stop exercising. It’s a waste of time.
  • Watch more TV. I’ve been missing some good stuff.
  • Procrastinate more.
  • Create some more loose ends.
  • Wait around for an opportunity.
  • Take up a new habit – maybe smoking!
