Richard’s Plumbing of the Day

We continue to wait for someone to dig our trenches for water/sewer (maybe this weekend?), so Richard worked on a smaller task he could complete on his own. We have always needed a water shut-off for this house, but we really need it now to shut all the water off once we move.

So, Richard witched the water line to find where it came out of the house, dug down to the water line, cut the line, and inserted a shut-off and drain! We will leave it open til tomorrow to make sure there’s no leaks, then will cover it over with dirt and the pipe to hold dirt off the valve so we can reach down and turn it off/on as necessary.

Electric Company Staked out our new Poles

Today, as scheduled (!), the electric company guy came and staked out the new poles to bring power to our new house. Because the pole for our current house is way on the other side of where our new house will be and that area is covered with old trees that shed limbs daily, we can’t run power from it. Luckily, there’s another power line just south of the new house we can extend and tie into! He said they would be out in one to two weeks to set the poles! We are getting used to that term, “one to two weeks!”

We talked with Three Stone Homes, and they said they will be out middle of next week to start the foundation work! Though, we won’t count on that until we see the trucks pull up with equipment on the trailers!

Bought the Plumbing Stuff!

Because we had so much trouble finding someone to do ALL the plumbing, we hope we’ve found someone to just dig the trenches, and we will do the actual plumbing parts! Today we went to Lowes and bought the pipe and fittings. First we wondered how to haul the 20 ft lengths, but, after asking the google, we found the idea of using a 20 ft ladder! Perfect! And, the sewer pipe all fit inside the truck bed!

First Contractor Visit

This morning we took down another fence, and Richard brush-hogged the area where they will haul the house and the area where they will be doing dirt work for the foundation.

Then, this afternoon Ty of Three Stone Homes come to check out the site and discuss all the various parts that go into getting our new house.

He used a laser to check the various elevations, and we decided we’d stick with the location we pegged out, even though the NE end will be pretty high.

Last Friday we called the electric company, and the earliest they could come is the 19th. Today Ty said they really needed the electric pole set, so they will do some other small jobs they have and they will come back next Wednesday or Thursday and start digging! Meanwhile, we will get the water/sewer lines dug and start gluing pipes together! Hopefully things will come together

Below is a little time-lapse I made of the discussion of placement of the house. I’m playing with settings so I can get the best photos for the times when more activity happens!

Crew Coming Monday???!!!

Well, after 3 months of NO movement on our new house and earlier this week them saying it would be two weeks, they called this morning saying they will be out Monday morning to start the ground work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeh!!!!!! Now we are scurrying to get the money to them, get the electric and water/sewer lined up for next week, etc. etc. Fingers crossed all can come together properly!!!!

Cutting up the Big Tree!

It took us several days, but we managed to cut up and push away the big tree! It was unfortunate we couldn’t burn the wood in our wood stove, but we got it out of the way of the electric company when the put in the new power line to our new house!

Cutting Down Trees

We still have a while to go before the house site prep begins, but we had one thing we could do, cut down a tree! One side of this tree needed severe trimming so the power line could come through, and the other side needed major trimming so the house can come in beside it. Rather than just trimming, we decided to just have it cut down. As it’s a very large tree and, if it were to go over the wrong direction, it would take out live power lines, so we decided to hire it done. And, while the trimmer was here, we had two other small projects to trim.

As with everything else, it took us a while to find a trimmer who would show up. The first guy said, “I’ll be there Thursday or Friday.” When he didn’t show up, Richard left a message on Monday and, he never replied. So, then we asked neighbors, and we found out one neighbor had a tree guy coming on Monday to look over some tree work he needed done. We asked our friend to send the tree guy our way.

Not only did he SHOW UP on Monday, he came over to our house and gave us a reasonable quote. He called us Tuesday morning to say he’d be there on Wednesday to cut the trees . . . and he DID!!

Video of our New View

I wanted to do something toward our new house, so I went out and made a video of the stakes we set out. I’m looking the direction of the main rooms of the house showing the new view we will have!

Mowing and Staking out our New House!

We decided to mow the new house area (the Johnson grass was big!) and stake it out just so we could say we were moving forward on our new house!

And, I wanted to do a trial run of time-lapse photos which I plan to run of the bigger projects that are yet to come as we move toward getting our new house!

Our New House!

After finally decided to go with a manufactured home rather than build from scratch, Richard, Mom, and I have been visiting various businesses in our area, and we finally settled on Three Stone Homes.

Today we made a down-payment on our home! Below is the floor plan.
