Well, today’s been one long, long day, and it’s not over yet.
We got up at 4 am Saskatchewan local time and got to the airport to find that our flight from Saskatoon to Minneapolis was canceled! We were routed around through Winnepeg and given some future travel vouchers and meal vouchers. We had a bit of a wait in Saskatoon and then another long layover in Winnepeg. The touchdown in Minneapolis from Winnepeg was horrible for both Richard and my ears, but mostly mine because I am so sensitive to the pressure changes, especially during landings. We had a short layover in Minneapolis and my ears weren’t able to unplug before we headed up in the air again. They continued to hurt through the flight and mostly, again, during the landing.
Oh well, we were so excited to be in Kansas City (though we were still a 3 hour drive from home) at 5 pm. We got to the luggage claim area (I bet you are ahead of me already, aren’t you?), a bunch of luggage came out, but then it all stopped. There were quite a few people like us still waiting for bags. Come to find out, something broke in Minneapolis, and a bunch of bags didn’t make it on the plane. So, we got more future travel vouchers and meal vouchers (um-um, more airport food!) and sat about waiting for the plane with our luggage (due to arrive at 8:20 pm).
Oh, and the luggage guy suggested we get our car from the park and fly hotel we stayed at Friday night, and Richard paused just enough for him to quickly know what we realized the minute the luggage rack stopped turning and our bags hadn’t been on it . . . the car keys were in the checked baggage. Of course, we are both pretty experienced travelers and this is probably the ONLY time we’ve let that happen, and, of course, this WOULD be the time the bags are late.
We ate a pretty nice meal with the vouchers, I hooked up to the free wireless to read email and all that. And we wait. It’s a bit disconcerting to see the flight with the bags on it showing arriving late (it’s now to 8:30), and also to hear that they aren’t really sure whether our bags are on that flight or the 8:50 pm one . . . .
However, Richard and I are to the point where we are just going along with “whatever.” The airline has taken good care of us so far, and it this goes too late in the evening, we will try for a free hotel room and just go to bed!
So, I’m hoping we will arrive home sometime tonight (remember, we still have that 3 hour drive ahead of us!).
We had such a great trip to Canada, we aren’t going to let this bother us!
