I usually try and watch the Triple Crown races, but missed the Kentucky Derby and Preakness this year. The Belmont more than made up for it though! Whew, what a race! At the final turn, Rags to Riches (the 22nd filly ever to run in the Belmont and the first since Silverbulletday finished seventh in 1999) and Curlin (he won the Preakness by a nose) broke from the pack and made a fabulous run to the wire where Rags to Riches won, making her the third filly to win, and the first to win since 1905. I’ve especially enjoyed the Kentucky Derby ever since I was a kid. One of the big things on my “things to do before I die” list is to attend the Kentucky Derby on my birthday (which happens about every 5-6 years, unless leap year messes it up, which happened last time making it May 1998 since it was on my birthday). In 2009, May 2 (my birthday) is the first Saturday in May (Kentucky Derby Day), and I hope to be there! If I can’t then, it will be 2015 before I can go!
