Lunar Eclipse Setting and Sunrise

I read about the lunar eclipse happening this morning yesterday here and knew I had to get out and photo it! I bundled up (it was about 17 degrees!), got my new Pentax K-5 camera and telephotos lens from Mom’s old film camera with 2x teleconverter (making it about 400 mm) and my tripod and walked to the place where I could see the moon set the latest in our area. I was a little early, but then I was able to chronicle the entire bit of the eclipse I could see! Some of the photos are darker now that they translated to the web than they are actually. Maybe later I’ll lighten them for the web! Now I just want to post this!

A long exposure shot of a tree opposite the moon (I was bored!)

Here’s the moon with no zoom (or cropping) at 6:02:14 am

Here’s full zoom, no crop. I think the eclipse was starting by this photo at 6:26:42 am. I really couldn’t see the shadow with my naked eye, but could in the photo.

Then I shot over where the sun would come up. The horizon was getting some color at 6:41:35 am

I wasn’t able to see the sun and the moon at the same time like the article linked above said I might. It was about ten minutes between the last I could see of the moon and the sun peaking over the horizon here at 7:19:24 am
