We stopped at a ranch in SE Colorado for a short visit. Richard got to help load some calves!

Good looking heifers.

Then we drove west toward the area where my mother's dad was born.

Beautiful mountains and country.

My grandfather was born in this county.

This is the only photo I got of elk on the entire trip, though we did see another large herd in Big Sur just before dark when I couldn't photo.

More beautiful mountains and valley.

The church in Westcliff, CO where my grandfather was baptized is still in use.

What a beautiful church.

Here's the view just outside Westcliff. What a perfect valley.

The deer and turkey enjoyed this irrigated alfalfa field right by the road.

More beautiful valley and mountains.

Layers of mountains show in the evening haze.
