Probably sometime in the late 1990s I found out that the hospital I was born at in Ft. Bragg, CA had been turned into a Bed and Breakfast. Since then, it’s been on my “bucket list” to stay there. While I was planning this trip to my High School Reunion, I checked on it, and found it was closed. I was so bummed!! However, while staying with friends near Sacramento and telling them about my wish but it was closed, I thought to check one more time! I found out they were opening again on August 8, and I was able to reserve the room which had been the nursery for Monday, August 10!
The Delivery Room
Within these walls generations of Mendocino coast families welcomed new life into the world. This room served as the hospital’s delivery room where physicians, nurses, and expectant mothers experienced some of life’s most joyful and memorable moments.
Following delivery, newborns were carefully passed through to the adjoining room where they received their first bath before being reunited with their mothers.
Countless local families began their stories right here.
The Legacy Room
This room was once the hospital’s nursery where newborn babies where lovingly passed through after delivery to receive their very first bath.
You’ll find the original baby bathing sink, which remains in it’s original location. more than a century later, it serves as a remarkable reminder of the thousands of lives welcomed into the world within these historic walls.
Today this space continues its legacy of comfort, preserving an important chapter in the history of this building and the families it served.
