In October of 1997, Mom and I drove around NW California visiting and photographing many of the places I’d lived growing up. One house we wanted to try and find was 4704 Arabella St in Eureka, where we lived when I started kindergarten. We knew the address, and Mom had this photo taken of me on my first day of school. We were dismayed to find out there was no longer an “Arabella St” in Eureka. Next step, find the house on the re-named street. I can’t remember all the steps, but we did finally (with the help of the photo showing the houses across the street) find the house. Mom took my photo in the same position as I was 34 years previous!
I guess I’m thinking of all this as Richard and I prepare to head to California for my 30th High School Reunion (Arcata High). I haven’t been back since 1997, and it’s past time!
