The Big Fire

Well, you saw the lovely sunrise photo, and I got my ticket all sorted out by the nice ticket lady. I bought a bagel and water and read some, went through security with no problem, and was sitting by the gate where they were announcing that the flight was overbooked and they were asking for volunteers to take the $300 credit (see, I was right!). The flight was to leave at 9:44, and then, at 9:10, some people behind me made some odd noises, and I looked outside, and I saw a bus smoking heavily! Kansas City airport has everything right close to the outside door, the first photo below is not on any telephoto, we were THAT close to the burning bus! We saw the driver helping people get off, and then it slowly burst into flames! If you click on one of the smaller photos below you will see a larger photo, then just click “back” to come back here.

They finally told us to evacuate the building, so I got some outside shots of the firemen at work.

They finally let us back in, but then we had to go through security again. Luckily, they let us on the Detroit flight go to the head of the line. We took off just about 45 minutes late, which worried me about making my Detroit connection (remember, the lady said it might be tight?). Well, I arrived on gate 9 and left on gate 12! I ran to the gate, asked if they were boarding yet, and she said no! I had time for a bathroom stop and drink of water!!! So, I made it to Baltimore pretty much on time with just a story and some photos to tell of the great Kansas City Airport fire.
