Happy Birthday to Me!

My wonderful family and friends pulled off a great surprise party for my birthday! First, Richard was going turkey hunting for the weekend, so he packed up all his stuff Friday morning to haul to work and then onto hunting, and I figured that was the last I’d see of him until Monday afternoon. Jessica and I had planned on a full day in Springfield for her prenatal appointment, lunch, shopping, and maybe a movie. Since we couldn’t fit in the movie (and Jessica said she had to be home by 6 pm), we didn’t get to the movie. Now I know why she needed to be home by 6 pm!

I guess one of the potential difficulties was convincing me to ride into work with Richard, and Jessica would bring me home after shopping (rather than me drive and meet Jessica somewhere). I solved that one by suggesting it on my own (without knowing I was working right into their plan!).

I started getting suspicious only when we drove up to the farm at the end of the fun day shopping, and the gate was unlocked and open. I wondered if Richard had forgotten something, and we just happened there while he was getting it? Jessica said maybe some thieves were there! We drove up and I saw Andy’s truck out behind the garage and wondered what in the world HE was doing there? Then everyone ran out from behind the house, and I finally figured it all out!!!

Richard had the brats almost done grilling and everyone had brought such wonderful food! Oh, cheer for Eight Bells in the Kentucky Derby today. Mark and Susan gave me a bet (legal!) of $10 on her nose. I told Richard several years ago that one of my lifelong dreams was to attend the Kentucky Derby when it fell on my birthday. Well, that’s next year! The main office of Mark’s boss is in Louisville, and he can get discounts on tickets and such, so I’m looking forward to it. If I don’t make it next year, the next chance will be May 2, 2015!

What a great day! I can’t begin to thank everyone involved enough!

Here’s the crowd at my wonderful surprise birthday party!!!

Fifty! Fifty!!! How in the world can I be fifty years old? Though, like Richard says, it’s a lot better than the alternative!

The party theme was Kentucky Derby, but Rondle wasn’t specific with the cake place about what sort of horses! I love this picture though as it’s by one of my favorite western artists, Tim Cox.

It was pretty windy, so it took a lighter on each candle to keep them lit while I blew!

The kids had fun eating and . . .

. . . playing on the tire swing!
